The top speed is not the same for every weight. I am not so concerned with how fast it will go on a frsh batter but the top speed after the battery is half way used. I want to know the tops speed for a 200 lb person and the top speed of a 120 lb person. I had to put different people it them to get the actual top speeds on flats and hills with different weights. I actually put on weights making myself heavier to really feel the difference in G force and acceleration.
(many people also put ceramic in their wheels to make the board go faster)
Also, it is not fair to tell someone that the board goes 0 to 20 miles per hour in this or that many seconds if they don't know the person's weight. It can mean kickstarting a board or not having to actually.
The top speed on the high powered boards don't lose its torque and the speed up hill is not reduced on the powerful brushed motor models. The only sacrifices is that the board has a lot of power but about half the time of the low torque brushless models.
Many people ask about the top speed in relation to how much distance needs to be covered to get to that top speed. The cheap boards that are not engineered as good often tend to oscillate and become unstable on high speeds. So, its not just how fast it will go unless the board is stable enough.
The electric skateboard with chains go the fastest (see the Gnar and E-glide videos). The chain models have the highest top speed but require so much maintenance and you can't go in sand or if you go off roading you gotta clean the chain just about every time. The fastest non chain version I have tested is the Eglide GI model. It keeps up the top speed throughout nearly the entire battery life.
It goes to 23 MPH with their heaviest weight rating. It pisses me off when companies say that their board goes to 28 or 30 mph but when really it is probably rated just at bare motor speed with no weight on it. They press the acceleration button and tell how fast it went without anyone on it. It can be misleading when you don't know if the rating is with no weight on it or they can put in writing that it goes that top speed with 200 or 250 lbs on it or however much the board is rating for.
Also, when it says goes up to MPH, does it really go that fast or JUST UP TO?
IF you are trying to pick out the electric skateboard with a certain top speed, make sure you let me know your weight. It makes big difference on which model I select. Take my skate quiz here.
